[ one day while peter is at work and lily is at school, daneca makes her way to alex's office. she'd called ahead and requested a meeting because she is that person. she'd even dressed up, like a bossy little voice in her head that sounds just like a particular blonde is telling her she has to dress nicely in order to be taken seriously. which is why she is currently in the waiting room in a pencil skirt and blouse instead of her usual attire of maxi dresses or peter's old jeans she turned into shorts. (she is not a dressy person, almost ever, unless she has to be for work.)
her discomfort is obvious, though. she clearly doesn't want to be there. ]
[not long after she shows up, she gets called in to the office. alex actually hates that she called ahead because now he's had lots of time to dread talking to her. but also glad because she wouldn't bust in on him day drinking or something. (unsure) as it is, his head is propped against the palm of his hand, waiting for her to come in.]
It's something. [ that's about as rude as daneca gets though, and it's immediately softened as she sits down, crossing her legs, and adds, ] Hi Alex. You look good.
[ the last time they saw each other, presumably, was when alex handed over the books and single necklace lila left her. it's been a minute. ]
[alex will indulge in a lot of stereotypically feminine shit, but he has a line and that line starts somewhere around candles. he picks up candles in the store, sniffing them and putting them down while looking displeased. why??? what did he do to deserve this????]
[ because ambiance, alexander. lila is picky as shit, so her selections come slowly. most of them are aromatherapy style, calming and soothing, they kind that is supposed to relax you. his displeasure doesn't go unnoticed however, she just ignores it for the most part.
but not completely. she finally turns to him, setting another candle in the basket. ] What?
[well vegas was fun but now they are in japan bc you gave me than animu bullshit and also that's what i was going to do anyway. he takes her to a lot of places, like places where they can get hella sushi and weird themed restaurants like lol now ur in prison and cafes where there are cats all over the establishment and they go up to you and you can play with them. but around the midpoint of the trip, he takes her up to the tokyo tower observation deck. tokyo tower itself huge, sort of like the eiffel tower only there's like restaurants and a mini-mall instead and idk weird japanese ppl. the observation deck is about midway up the tower, but still high as shit. and also the floor is made of glass.
lila might remember that this was where she talked to alex in his coma dream, only this time there are other people around them, the city below them is pulsating with activity, and nobody is actually in a coma. alex leans forward on one of the bars in front of the glass paneling, looking out thoughtfully.]
[ at first lila doesn't recognize it, looking at it with the same slight awe as she's approached everything. everything in japan is so clean and neat, it's comforting almost, to return to their hotel and fall into the literal mess of their lives. but it's beautiful and she can see why alex loves it, even if it's slightly too different for her to feel entirely comfortable.
this place is no different, but it tugs at something familiar she can't place until she glances over and sees alex leaning against the railing. it hits her so suddenly she actually gasps, but manages (?) to brush it off as the view. ]
[it's alex's birthday and now tori lives with him and wouldn't just let him lay in his own bed and be depressed like he always tries to do, so he ... went across the street to go to ayla/devon's apartment and lay around and be depressed on their couch. now that, in his own opinion, he's passed the threshold of ~dying young~ and being supertitious about his impending death, he mostly lays around being sad because lila and beks are dead (mostly) and he's foreveralone.jpg.]
[ dad is on her couch and ayla doesn't actually mind a little bit or even at all. she let's him mope, but eventually wants to watch tv and he's in the way so she tries so squeeze on to the couch next to him. ]
[all these years and alex's cooking skills haven't progressed beyond occasionally stirring things or chopping up vegetables for beks. he knows his place, ok. which is why he's looking at the carrot he's slicing up instead of at her as he says] I was thinking of going to Japan for a month or two, after Katya goes back to school. And I just ... wanted you to know ... if you wanted to come with me, that'd be great.
[ her whisking pauses briefly, the lack of scratching against the bottom of the pan marking her surprise. it's short-lived, however, and she smiles to herself before answering. ]
[nbd alex is just having brunch with his daughter like one does. idk where katya is. probably trying to talk ari into graffiti-ing something with her. that sounds about right. anyway alex is eating an omelet while talking about one of his favorite things.]
I'm still mad that Jurassic World isn't a thing. I would pour all the family money into it. All of it. And I can actually fly a fuckin' helicopter, so I've already got a better chance of living than that one rich guy if things went wrong.
[wheee more zacharov parties. maybe it's new year's eve lmfao. anyway alex got a tiny corner piece of cake from the dessert table and he has to show her bcuz ... ] Look at it. It looks so fuckin' depressed. Like a sad Elvis or something.
[alex was like idk lila should i meet ur mom i guess???? it can't be any worse than his mom ... maybe??? that's what he decided. so that's why they're at her house rn. yep. this was an amazing tag.]
